BFJ wishes to thank the
renowned jazz pianist, Joe Bonner, for his help and inspiration.
Bonner has a unique jazz story. Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in April of
1948, he eventually earned a music degree from Virginia State. His travels took him to
Denmark, where he joined artists like Max Roach, Freddy Hubbard, Pharoah Sanders, Woody
Shaw, Roy Haynes, Stanley Turrentine and Aretha Franklin.
Bonner has appeared on a long list of
recordings as a bandleader or sideman, with titles released on Evidence, Muse,
Steeplechase, Capri, and ABC/Impulse! labels.
When Bonner sits at the keys, it's easy to
hear Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Art Tatum and Fats Waller, among his
many inspirations. Colorado audiences have been lucky to enjoy Bonner's virtuoso
sensibility.
Bonner has sat-in with BFJ, and we appreciate
him as a musician and a man.
Thanks, Joe.
